Green Job Training Programs Guide for California Published

A new guide called Building a Clean Energy Workforce has just been published by the Environment California Research and Policy Center, and it’s a perfect companion for people looking to find a green career. The report covers a wide variety of topics, including why green jobs are important for California and how they’re impacting the state as a whole.  According to the report:

  • There are at least 298 green job training programs in California, offered by 130 institutions.
  • Job training programs in California are essential to successful implementation of the state’s policies, which are designed to spur investment in infrastructure for sustainable energy. Without adequately trained workers, California will not be able to meet the goals of its clean energy policies.

But most importantly, it provides extensive information on hundreds of green jobs training programs available throughout the state. The guide breaks up green jobs by various training program types such as:

  • Private training programs for jumpstarting the workforce
  • Community college programs over a variety of subjects
  • Technical colleges programs for all skill levels
  • Union training programs providing comprehensive training
  • Teaching jobs within the green marketplace

The guide also has 13 pages of green economy training program listings covering everything from remodeling, energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, biofuel production, hybrid vehicle engineering, weatherization, transportation technology, building automation, BPI programs, government auditing, and much more.

This is a fantastic guide for those hoping to get into the green job market, with tons of inspiration and resources. Green Jobs California is a great companion piece to this report as it includes an online job board. There’s even a Green Jobs Guidebook which is a searchable listing of positions including salary ranges, education requirements, and job descriptions. Even if you don’t live in California, you can always study there and then take your green job knowledge back to your home state.
